Pet Dentistry Services

Why do Dogs need Dentists?

Why is Pet Dentistry Important?

Cats and dogs who don’t receive proper oral care are prone to periodontal disease which can do a lot more than give your pet bad breath. Periodontal disease is a progressive condition that starts with plaque buildup and can develop into gingivitis (inflammation of the gums), tooth decay and loss. Bacteria in the gums can enter the bloodstream and infect your pet’s heart, liver, and kidneys.

The good news is early intervention and yearly dental exams will help your pets have healthy, happy smiles throughout their lives. While it’s important to prevent periodontal disease from ever taking hold, it’s never too late to have your pet’s teeth examined and cleaned.

Your Pet’s Dental Cleaning

We perform thorough pet dentistry on cats and dogs under general anesthesia. This enables the doctor to properly remove plaque and tartar, inspect the entire mouth for abnormalities, clean and polish the teeth, and clean beneath the gums. Your pet’s doctor will also take digital dental x-rays and remove any loose or bad teeth. Like any surgical procedure, when your pet is under general anesthesia for a dental cleaning, he or she will be carefully monitored by a licensed veterinary technician.
